The Department of Law welcomes Megan Donaldson as Professor in Public International Law. Prior to joining the EUI, Donaldson was an Associate Professor of International Law at University College London. Her research spans public international law, its theory and history, with a particular focus on the development of the international legal order and foundational areas such as statehood, treaties, and diplomatic relations. At the EUI, she will explore transnational criminal cooperation and human mobility, including migration, asylum, and labour, as areas of increasingly legalised interdependence and as test cases for the future development of international law.
The Department of Economics welcomes Brian Amorim Cabaço as Assistant Professor in Macroeconomics. Amorim Cabaço is a macroeconomist whose research examines how market power, corporate concentration, and competition policy shape aggregate economic outcomes. His work connects macroeconomics with industrial organisation and antitrust, using empirical and quantitative approaches to study firm behaviour, market structure, and the broader economy. Amorim Cabaço holds a PhD in Economics from University College London.
The Florence School of Transnational Governance welcomes Leonard Seabrooke as the new Chair of Political Economy and Economic Sociology, and Hila Shamir as Chair of Transnational Law.
Seabrooke joined from Copenhagen Business School (CBS), where he was Professor of International Political Economy and Economic Sociology. His research crosses international relations, political economy, and sociology. He is the former Academic Director of the Bachelor's and Master's in International Business and Politics Degrees at CBS, the Chair of the Ethics Council, and lead for the Organisations, Markets, and Governance research group.
Shamir is currently Principal Investigator of the European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant ChainGE: A New Labour Law for Supply Chain Capitalism (2024–2029). The project examines how labour law and labour governance can be reimagined to strengthen workers’ rights and power in global value chains. Her research focuses on labour and employment law, migration and welfare law, transnational law, feminist legal thought, and critical legal theory. She has held visiting positions at Harvard Law School, Notre Dame Law School, the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, Georgetown Law, UC Berkeley, and Cornell Law School. Before entering academia, she clerked for Justice Eliyahu Mazza of the Supreme Court of Israel and practised law in Boston.
With their distinguished professional backgrounds and expertise, these new faculty members will enrich the EUI’s research, teaching, and academic community, bringing new perspectives and contributing to scholarly exchange across the Institute.
