In July 2025, the European University Institute’s Florence School of Regulation (FSR) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)’s Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEPR) announced a new high-level academic conference on energy and climate policy.
The CEEPR-FSR Conference on the Future of Energy and Climate Policy will take place every year in October, with the first edition scheduled for autumn 2026 at the EUI campus. The event’s goal is to engage with public and private decision makers as well as global thought leaders, and discuss the evolving landscape of energy and climate regulation.
Building on the well-established network around the Florence School of Regulation, the CEEPR-FSR conference will include high-level policymakers and regulators from European and national institutions, senior representatives of companies supporting the work of CEEPR and of donors to FSR, as well as leading scholars from the two academic institutions and intellectual partners around the world. The conference will focus on the latest developments in energy and climate policy.
“We are truly excited about this collaborative effort,” says Christopher R. Knittel CEEPR Faculty Director and the George P. Shultz Professor of Energy Economics at the MIT Sloan School of Management. “It has never been more important to strengthen transatlantic dialogue on the most pressing challenges we face in energy and climate policy, and we couldn’t imagine a better partner for this endeavour than our colleagues at the FSR.”
“After many years of successful collaboration, with this conference, we are institutionalising the excellent relations between our teams” added Leonardo Meeus, Director of the Florence School of Regulation. “We look forward to welcoming the CEEPR experts in Florence every year in autumn to discuss the latest developments on energy and climate policy.”
The conference will draw on the global networks of both FSR and CEEPR, featuring participants from European and national institutions, corporate partners, and academic communities. Ahead of the first edition, the two institutions will intensify their collaboration through a series of joint activities, including online debates, interviews, newsletters, and blog articles.
This initiative reinforces both FSR and CEEPR’s longstanding commitment to thought leadership and policy impact in the energy and climate field.
