On 9 April, the EUI team of the ShaPE project (Social partners as shapers and makers of social Europe) met with Philippe Pochet, until recently Director-General of the European Trade Union Institute, to discuss its preliminary research and archival findings on the EU social partners as Treaty-makers and shapers.
Together, project participants considered existing archival holdings and literature and reflected on the next steps of our research on the role of trade unions and employer organisations in making and shaping EU Treaty and law-making, including identifying new archives to explore.
ShaPE entails reflecting on the past to consider the EU social partners’ roles in current large-scale challenges, most notably the green, digital, and demographic transitions.
The EUI’s project team consists of Claire Kilpatrick (Principal Investigator) and Marc Steiert from the EUI Law Department, along with Emmanuel Mourlon-Druol and Jacopo Cellini from the EUI Department of History/Alcide De Gasperi Programme, and Dieter Schlenker and archival staff from the Historical Archives of the European Union.
