Building on the success of the short-term mobility initiative launched in 2025, the EUI Widening Europe Programme continues in 2026 to enhance research opportunities, promote knowledge exchange, and facilitate access to resources in the social sciences and humanities by offering a second year of one-week mobility stays at the European University Institute in Florence for doctoral researchers from the targeted Widening countries:
Inside the European Union: Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
Outside the European Union: Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo1, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Moldova, and Ukraine.
This new activity marks an additional measure to connect the EUI with national Higher Education Institutions in the targeted regions, improving the ongoing effort to bridge Europe's knowledge gap.
