To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration in 2020, the Historical Archives of the European Union prepared a multi-lingual exhibition: Europe and Europeans 1950>2020: 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration.

On 7 May, the exhibition was inaugurated at the Slovenian Parliament. The Archives of the Republic of Slovenia organised a special tour, guided by the Archives director Bojan Cvelfar, for a delegation composed of Mr. Janez Lenarčič, European Commissioner for Crisis Management; Mr. Igor Zorčič, President of the National Assembly; mag. Marko Pogačnik, Chair of the Parliament’s Committee on EU Affairs.

The exhibition will soon start travelling across Slovenia until it is permanently installed on display at the Representative Office of the European Commission in Ljubljana.

The exhibition “Europe and Europeans 1950>2020: 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration” sets out to raise awareness of the importance of the Schuman Declaration in European integration history, to stimulate reflection on its relevance in today’s Europe, and to encourage debate on the history of the European Union (EU) and its future for the new generations of Europeans.

Visitors are invited to take a journey through European history via two distinct but inter-connecting paths. The first is guided by key sentences of the Declaration, while the second introduces visitors to people who were involved in or affected by the process of European integration, and invites them to reflect on what it means to be European. Through images and documents preserved at and selected from the HAEU, viewers can experience some of the most relevant political, economic, social and cultural developments of the last 70 years of European history.

The exhibition was originally planned for 9 May, Europe Day 2020, but had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 crisis. Available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Slovenian, and Latvian, the exhibition panels are downloadable on the HAEU website in different formats and languages by any institution that would like to display it and/or translate it into other languages.

Any organisation interested in hosting the exhibition may contact the Archives at archiv@eui.eu or by phone: (+39) 055 4685 649.
