The Project Talk series hosted by the STG Policy Leader Fellows will launch on Monday, 18 October. The series provides an opportunity for the fellows to present and discuss their work in progress with peers, as well as stakeholders who join the panel upon invitation.
A total of 29 fellows were awarded a five or ten months fellowship starting in September and February. With 21 fellows having arrived in Florence in September, this first part of the project talk series will run until the end of January. A new round of talks will start with the beginning of the second semester, when the remaining fellows will join the School.
The talks will be delivered in hybrid, online or in-presence modality, and cover the fellows’ various fields of expertise, ranging from transparency and data protection, gender concerns and climate change, to the issue of money laundering and cryptocurrencies.
First in line is Policy Leader Fellow Umar Kabanda, who will present his work on Sustainable Foreign Direct Investments (FDI). Umar will be joined by Dr. Faustine Panga (Moshi Co-Operative University, Tanzania), Dr. Niying Roger Mbihbiih (University of Buea, Cameroon), Dr. Mady Ibrahim Kante (University of Legal and Political Sciences of Bamako, Mali) and Dr. Tichaona T. Mazarire (North-West University, South Africa). The panel will explore the different dynamics in the African context and identify policy changes that can help foreign direct investment create skill-intensive jobs, facilitate green technology transfer, drive environmentally sustainable finance, and promote inclusive access to infrastructure through Private Public Partnership (PPPs). The event will be moderated by Policy Leader Fellow Kashimana Ivo.
