Biography
Amira Badri is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Florence and the Migration Policy Centre at the EUI. She serves as Professor of Sociology of Development at Ahfad University for Women, within the Regional Institute of Gender Diversity, Peace & Rights, where she also heads the Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Development Studies Unit.
An academic and researcher in migration studies since 2009, Professor Badri has contributed to local, regional, and international MA programs in Gender and Migration Studies, teaching courses and supervising research projects. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on women’s leadership and gender equality in the economy, migrant women’s empowerment through business enterprises, poverty alleviation, and capacity building.
Her current research explores African migrant women workers in Italy, examining their challenges, opportunities, and aspirations in achieving decent work, with a particular emphasis on capacity-building needs.
Professor Badri’s professional affiliations reflect her active engagement in international research networks. She is a Senior Researcher at the Refugee Law Initiative Centre in the School of Advanced Studies, University of London, a Global Academy Fellow with the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) in the United States, and a Member of the Arab Council for the Social Sciences in Beirut.
