Biography

Brandi Meredith is an American civil rights attorney and policy expert specializing in employment discrimination and artificial intelligence.

Brandi joins the Florence School of Transnational Governance following over 15 years at the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission where she served as Senior Attorney Advisor to the agency’s Chair during the Biden administration. In that role, Brandi co-led the agency's AI and Algorithmic Fairness Initiative. During her tenure, the agency increased public awareness of the potential for AI bias in employment decisions, developed resources for employers and workers on combating algorithmic bias, and published a report on diversity in the high-tech sector. Brandi also advised on gender and caregiver discrimination, including the agency’s implementation of the newly enacted Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. Previously as a Trial Attorney, Brandi enforced antidiscrimination laws against employers to obtain lasting corporate policy changes and substantial monetary relief for workers who experienced discrimination.

As a Law Fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center, Brandi advocated for education and juvenile justice reform. She began her career as a judicial law clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. She holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy and Psychology from Brown University.

As a Policy Leader Fellow, Brandi is examining opportunities for American advocates to leverage foreign AI frameworks, including the EU's AI Act, to obtain stronger civil rights protections for U.S. workers facing algorithmic bias and discrimination.
