Catherine is currently a Senior Education Evaluation and Impact Manager at Newcastle University in the UK where she is supporting the University in developing an institution-wide evaluation framework and learning system to better advance student equity across the whole student journey. Prior to this role, Catherine was a postdoctoral associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she evaluated international systems change projects in higher education and agriculture. For more than 10 years, Catherine has worked as an evaluator on regional and national projects including in English higher education and within the UK’s Department for Education. Her work as an evaluation practitioner influences and informs her research on how evaluation systems shape practice, which was the focus of her PhD, completed at the University of Bristol in 2023. As a Max Weber Fellow, Catherine will continue to pursue research on the influences of evaluation systems on practice and policy decision-making. Her research will take an interdisciplinary approach, drawing from knowledge across areas related to policy learning, governance, organisational learning and change, evaluation use and influence, and systems thinking.
