Biography

Adjunct Professor Florian Eder develops the STG’s work on the role of the media in democratic societies. Previously Politico's Executive Editor Germany, Eder moved to the Süddeutsche Zeitung in June 2023 where he will set up and run a new editorial unit on digital political journalism.

Eder joined POLITICO as a Managing Editor — and member of the founding team — in 2015 and was author of Brussels Playbook, the publication's flagship morning briefing for all things Brussels and EU. He has been teaching at various journalism schools and was a lecturer at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Milan.

Florian was also EU correspondent for Welt, covering EU politics and policies from Brussels, where he arrived at the peak of the Euro crisis in 2011. Florian previously worked as an editor in Berlin and as Italy correspondent.
