Julia Michalak is a political scientist with in-depth experience in EU climate policy. She has been following successive EU ETS reforms since 2008, focusing on the implementation of solidarity provisions in Central and Eastern Europe, the introduction of the Market Stability Reserve, subsequent revisions of free allocation mechanisms, and market oversight. She also has experience with the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), emissions trading for buildings, road transport, and additional sectors (ETS2), as well as the UNFCCC process.Before joining EUI, J. served for almost a decade as EU Policy Director at the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), a business organization that promotes a global framework for carbon pricing. Prior to that, Michalak worked on EU climate policy at research institutes and within the non-governmental sector in Brussels and Warsaw.
