Biography

Karolina is Associate Professor at the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Science and associate research fellow at the Centre européen de sociologie et science politique (CESSP) of the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. She is also an expert of Team Europe Direct Poland affiliated by the European Commission.

Her research lies at the intersection of comparative European politics, EU democracy and reform, as well as parliamentary studies. She is currently a principal investigator in the project “Between politicization and legitimacy: transnational political discourse on EU institutional reform (EUDIS)” funded by the National Science Centre in Poland (€300 thousand).

Her latest publications (in West European Politics and JCMS) explore the questions of citizens’ representatives’ preferences related to EU treaty revisions and increased use of deliberative mini publics at the EU level.

In the past Karolina was a lecturer at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Paris 2 Panthéon-Assas and Masaryk University. She was also a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute and a head of EU programme at the Polish Institute of International Affairs. Her works appeared in a.o. in European Political Science Review, Journal of European Integration, Politics & Governance and Parliamentary Affairs.

Her EUI fellowship is devoted to exploring the political dynamics of the ongoing transnational debate on the European Union’s institutional reform in order to identify and explain patterns of its (de)politicization, (re)contextualization and (de)legitimization vis-à-vis EU citizens.
