Biography
Leon Tiedemann-Friedl is a political strategist working at the intersection of policy formulation, political coordination, and communication. He currently serves as a policy advisor in the Executive Department of the Vice-Chancellor at the German Federal Ministry of Finance, where he focuses on economic, innovation, and climate policy amid shifting geopolitical dynamics and a rapidly evolving public discourse.
Previously, he worked on transformation policy and societal dialogue at the Federal Chancellery, where he led a multi-stakeholder initiative convened by Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The platform brought together leaders across government, business, labor, academia, and civil society to forge a shared vision for Germany’s economy and drive collective action on key challenges, including the transition to climate neutrality and technological transformation.
His earlier government experience includes supporting international negotiations within the G7, G20, and IMF, as well as advancing Germany’s digital and innovation agenda. Prior to joining the federal administration, he served in UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ Strategy Unit in New York and worked in strategy consulting and the tech industry. In 2025, Capital Magazin named him one of Germany’s “Top 40 under 40” in politics.
As a Policy Leader Fellow, his work examines how political decision-making processes can become more future-oriented and sustainable—focusing on practical instruments and frameworks to embed anticipatory governance and strategic foresight into institutions and real-world policymaking.
