Biography

Llorenç Soler-Buades received his PhD in Political Science from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in September 2025. He also holds an MA in Social Policy, Work, and Welfare from the same university, as well as a BA in Political Science and Public Administration with a specialisation in comparative politics from the University of Barcelona. He has been a visiting fellow at the University of Milan (2022) and the University of Edinburgh (2025). Llorenç’s dissertation examined how political actors and institutions shape anti-poverty policy change within the European context. More specifically, he analysed the role of traditional and new political cleavages in reconfiguring party competition, coalition-building, and reform outcomes.

As a Max Weber Fellow, he will investigate cross-national variation in labour market policy, its causes, and its distributional consequences. He is particularly interested in how the rise of the service economy conditions parties’ strategies and firms’ behaviour, with far-reaching implications for inclusive labour market transformation.
