Llorenç Soler-Buades is a Max Weber Fellow and Part-Time Assistant Professor in Qualitative Methods at the European University Institute. He received his PhD in Political Science from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in September 2025. He has held visiting research positions at the University of Milan and the University of Edinburgh.His research examines how deindustrialisation, mass educational expansion, and the transition to the knowledge economy have reshaped labour market inequalities and political conflict across Europe. Situated at the intersection of comparative political economy, comparative politics, and welfare state research, his work focuses on the institutions that shape workers’ labour market opportunities and the political consequences that arise when education and jobs no longer match.During his Max Weber Fellowship, he is developing a research agenda entitled The Mismatched Workforce, which examines how education–labour market mismatches can be conceptualised and measured in contemporary knowledge economies. In a second stage, the project will investigate the political consequences of these mismatches, from governments' policy responses to their effects on political demobilisation and citizens' welfare policy priorities.
