Biography

After spending a period (2024-2026) as a part-time professor (Poste Italiane chair) at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, Marcello Messori is a Visiting Fellow at the same Centre for the academic year of 2026-2027. He is also a member of the EMU-Lab at RSCAS and a non-resident Fellow at the Institute for European Policy Making (IEP) at Bocconi University.

He is co-coordinator of the ‘Gruppo Europa’ at the Astrid Foundation. He has been the coordinator of a group of advisers for the European Parliament, Professor of Economics at LUISS and University of Rome ‘Tor Vergata’, Visiting Professor at European Universities (Sciences-Po, Paris; Paris-X Nanterre, LATAPSES, Université de Nice), and Visiting Scholar in several US, Irish, and Australian Universities (mainly, MIT and Stanford University).

He published about three hundred works in Italian, English, French, and German. In recent years, his work has focused on the economic governance of the European Union, mainly on financial and economic policy problems. He is currently commissioned to write the history of the Bank of Italy after the Second World War.

Marcello Messori has coordinated national and international research groups and has been involved in various institutional activities. In this last respect, he has been president of the Italian Railways company and president of the Italian association of asset management (Assogestioni). He is currently the president of Allianz Bank.
