Matthew Mitchell joined the EUI in January 2026, on leave from the University of Toronto. He previously held faculty positions at the University of Minnesota and the University of Iowa. He is the Managing Editor of the Journal of Industrial Economics and an Associate Editor at the Journal of Economic Theory, as well as a research fellow in Industrial Organisation at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). His research focuses on innovation and new technologies. His recent research has focused on how content providers on social media platforms interact with followers, and how regulation might shape those interactions. His research has been published at a variety of journals, including the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, RAND Journal of Economics, and the Journal of Economic Theory.
