Biography

Mengjing’s research interest lies in international economic law, in particular international financial governance, and international human rights law. In her work, Mengjing explores a human rights-based approach to global economic governance, using mixed methods including doctrinal analysis, empirical research, and law and political economy.

Mengjing received JSD from New York University (NYU), where her doctoral dissertation focuses on China’ Belt & Road Initiative. In addition, Mengjing has conducted research on the rise of sovereign investors in today’s global economy, with a particular focus on new challenges they may present to international law. At the EUI, Mengjing will write a book proposal based on her doctoral dissertation, and work on a research project on the regulation of sovereign investors in the field of energy transition.

Mengjing holds LLMs from NYU, Renmin University of China, where she exchanged at Center for Transnational Legal Studies in London, and Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a LLB from Northwest University of Political Science and Law. Before starting her JSD, Mengjing worked as a junior legal analyst at World Trade Organization, and interned with UN Trade and Development in Geneva, and UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok. Mengjing practiced law in Beijing.
