Biography
Michał Matlak is the Acting Director of the Institute for Innovation and Technology (ITECH), where he leads research and strategic projects on security, technology policy, and the energy transition. He is also a co-founder and member of the core group of the EU Security Initiative at the European University Institute (EUI), which fosters dialogue on Europe’s strategic security challenges.
Previously, Michał worked at the European Parliament, where he contributed to shaping EU policy across constitutional, foreign, and security affairs from 2016 to 2024.
In addition, he co-leads the Enlargement Hub at the Central European University, an initiative developed with the European University Institute, the Kyiv School of Economics, and Ukrainian government stakeholders, examining the nexus between EU enlargement and security policy.
Michał holds a PhD from the European University Institute. His academic experience includes fellowships at Princeton University, the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna, and the Hertie School of Governance.
He has written for leading publications such as Le Monde, The New York Review of Books, and Gazeta Wyborcza. His multilingual expertise and interdisciplinary background underpin his commitment to advancing European integration, security, and innovation.
