Biography

Pasi Penttinen is Adjunct Professor at the School of Transnational Governance with a focus on global health.

Dr Penttinen is currently Chief Executive Officer of the new Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia, established as a technical agency of the Gulf health Council. He is providing the operational and scientific leadership during the organisation’s launch phase.

Previously, he was the head of the disease programme for influenza and other respiratory viruses at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. He also led the development of the epidemic intelligence activities for the organisation, and has held other senior roles in public health and infectious disease epidemiology in multiple countries.

Penttinen is a medical doctor specialising in public health and a PhD in environmental epidemiology.
