Sabine Weyand is Hors Class Adviser on European Strategic Partnerships at the European Commission’s Secretariat-General. Sabine has over 30 years of experience in European policies ranging from trade, industry, economic and social to climate/environment and energy policies and 25 years of senior management and leadership experience. She was Deputy Chief Negotiator for the UK’s withdrawal from the EU between 2016 and 2019. Between June 2019 and May 2026, she was Director-General for Trade and Economic Security at the European Commission. Sabine holds a Ph.D. in political science from Tübingen University. In 2026, she was awarded the Global Economy Prize by the Kiel Institut für Weltwirtschaft. As an EU Fellow she will focus on issues of geoeconomics, trade and economic security. More specifically, she will explore how to develop economic statecraft in the multi-level governance system of the EU.
