Biography
Simon McMahon is specialised in supporting governments, international organisations, researchers and civil society to understand and manage challenges related to global governance, sustainable development and international migration. As a Policy Leader Fellow, he asks what lies ahead as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development reaches its conclusion and significant transformations reshape international cooperation. His project combines research, foresight and scenario building to provide new insights and ideas to navigate an uncertain future.
Prior to joining the Florence School of Transnational Governance, Simon has worked as an international consultant delivering advisory, research, and capacity building projects in countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East, delivered policy development and advice for the International Organization for Migration, and been responsible for research and advisory projects on migration and development for the European Commission. He has also been a Group Coordinator for a United Nations Global Study and a Research Fellow in academia, building up an extensive publication record of books, peer-reviewed articles, research reports and policy briefs.
Simon has a PhD in International Studies from King’s College London, is Certified in Monitoring and Evaluation from the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization, and an alumni of the United Nations Emerging Leaders programme. He speaks fluent English, Spanish and Italian, and intermediate French.
