Biography

Tomasz Tomczak is an Associate Professor in the Department of Commercial and Financial Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Opole. His research focuses on crypto-asset law, secured transactions and capital markets, including legal issues arising from new technologies.

He obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Wrocław (Poland). His doctoral dissertation, “Accessory Security Rights in Syndicated Lending: The Problem of Entity Separation”, was awarded cum laude..

He is a graduate of the University of Wrocław, Radboud University in the Netherlands (LL.M.), and the University of Ottawa in Canada (LL.M.). He is a laureate of the Programme in European Private Law for Postgraduates and has completed both a research internship (January 2021) and a research scholarship (March–May 2024) at UNIDROIT in Rome. In November 2025, he undertook a research stay at the Frankfurt School Blockchain Center. He has also been awarded the Edward Barry McDougall Scholarship and the Campus France Scholarship.

He is the author of numerous publications in leading Polish and international legal journals. In 2024, he received the Minister of Science scholarship for outstanding young scientists.

Alongside his academic activities, he practises as an attorney-at-law in Poland.

At the EUI, he is conducting research on the civil liability of AI agents.
