Sustainable Consumption Governance in the Global South

This project addresses a key policy dilemma: how can institutions promote sustainablebehaviors around climate action among ordinary people? As societies strive for aclimate-friendly future, individuals must internalize the values of reducing, reusing, andrecycling—accepting small inconveniences for the common good. Yet behavioral changecannot be imposed via law alone, nor should societies rely solely on state command. Thechallenge lies in designing regulations, incentives, and social norms that foster voluntaryadaptation and make sustainability a shared civic value. With €5,000 in funding, theproject will examine the Global South as an emerging case of sustainable consumptiongovernance.
