Description
How are sources used in intellectual history? What constitutes evidence and what are the different kinds of evidence intellectual historians rely on? In this seminar, we will examine a wide range of sources that can be adduced as evidence in intellectual history, from textual sources to photography, art, literature, data sets, etc. We will be reading texts making use of such sources as well as methodological or historiographical writings about them. In the process, we will have the opportunity to discuss some of the major approaches or school that have defined the field.
