Description
The Methods Course for Legal Scholars will be based on a collaboration between the Faculty of Law at Copenhagen University (UCPH), European University Institute (EUI), Florence, Geneva Graduate Institute (GFI) in Geneva.
The Methods Course will be targeted towards legal scholars in the early stages of their PhD projects. To limit the administrative burden, environmental impact and allow access to a diverse set of participants, the Methods Course will follow a hybrid model, where participants at the hosting institution will participate in-person, while participants from the other institutions will join sessions online.
Aim
To equip law researchers with the tools and methods that are particularly suited for the interdisciplinary study or law and institutions.
Sessions
Beyond an introductory and closing session, the 2hr sessions will be structured around specific methods relevant to international legal scholars seeking to engage in interdisciplinary research. The sessions will run in the fall semester and rotate between the hosting institutions. The suggested schedule and distribution of sessions has been tentatively agreed upon by the hosting institutions.
Program & Format
Participants will receive readings prior to each session.
Each session will consist of an afternoon lecture on a given method, as agreed upon by the hosting institutions and assignments where participants will get to either apply what they learned in the afternoon session or reflect on the use of a given method for their respective PhD projects.
The lectures will be on site at the hosting institution and will be streamed online for participants outside the hosting institution.
Audience
The Methods Course will be targeted towards PhD researchers who are in the early steps of their PhDs, to acquaint them with the basic principles of research design, methods data collection and analysis that might be relevant to their PhD projects.
