Description
The course is designed to expose researchers to the theory and application of feminist legal methods. It does so through close engagement with feminist judgments projects, whose aim is to creatively rewrite court decisions and allow the academic to reimagine themselves in judicial robes and subject to the strictures of the judicial function. The course adopts an inclusive, intersectional understanding of feminism and the reading material reflects this.
The course’s aims include both familiarising researchers with different feminist methodological tools and getting them to reflect on and start applying such tools in their own writing. As such, the course includes both more traditional learning through reading and discussion (in particular in term 1) and engaged participation in the form of group work and presentations (in term 2). The group work will consist of reporting back on a choice of in-depth readings in specific weeks. The class presentations will be based on the researchers’ own draft written work, followed by a constructive discussion about whether and how methodologies developed as part of feminist judgments projects can beneficially be integrated in this work. Class credits will be obtained on the basis of regular attendance and completion of the group work and class presentations.
Please note: The course meets on certain dates only, with some days including longer sessions. Please make sure to check the class schedule carefully.
