Description

Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) is about deciding and articulating which actions should be taken to achieve a desired result, followed by the collection and analysis of information to show if these results have been achieved or whether they can be improved. These processes are critical for ensuring good quality projects, programmes or strategies and evidence-based decision making commonly used in the aid sector, as well as other fields such as policy making.

The workshop will cover the basic concepts of PME through a mix of theory and practical exercises, using scenarios and case studies from development and humanitarian projects/programmes. Topics will include the project cycle management approach, key approaches to project planning, including Theory of Change and Logical Frameworks, and developing indicators to measure projects’ success. Different tools used for monitoring and evaluation will be introduced, allowing students to put them into practice through different examples.

Upon completion of the workshop students will understand why and how PME processes can lead to more effective projects/programmes/strategies and accountability towards recipients of aid and funders.
