Biography

I am an intellectual historian, with a particular interest in the social history of intellectuals.
I completed my doctorate at the University of Helsinki in 2009 with a dissertation on the reception of the philosophy of Henri Bergson in Finland.
The published version (2011, in Swedish) is titled, Henri Bergson in Finland. Reception, transfer, politicization.
Since then I have been working as an Academy of Finland researcher at the Centre for Nordic Studies (CENS) in Helsinki. My current project is about the different social roles of Finnish and Scandinavian intellectuals in the 19th and 20th century.
I am also involved in various research networks and projects focusing on comparisons between national intellectual fields in Europe, as well as the question of transfers and asymmetries in the European cultural space.
My other research interests include urban history, literary history and the history of avant-garde movements.
At the University of Helsinki I have held teaching courses on topics related to Nordic intellectual and cultural history from the Renaissance to the 20th century.
