Biography

I am a historian and an economist specialising in international economic history, history of science & technology and the intellectual history of capitalism.
I am based in Mexico City, where I am a research scholar at the Center for Historical Studies at Colegio de México (COLMEX).
I was educated at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the University of Cambridge; while pursuing my PhD I spent time as a visiting student at the universities of Bristol, Nottingham and the UCLA Center for Economic History. Before coming to Mexico,
I was a junior research fellow at the Institute of Historical Research (University of London), a postdoctoral research associate at Trinity Hall (Cambridge University) and a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. More recently, I was a lecturer and researcher in economic history at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, for two years, as well as a visiting scholar at the University of Havana in 2014.
In my scholarship and teaching, I bring historical methods and social theory to bear on the analysis of continuing and unfolding crucial debates. My research incorporates both empirical and analytical work drawn from the social sciences as it applies to problems of technological change, industrialisation, colonialism and globalisation.
