Biography

Silvia Pianta’s research focuses on environmental policy and politics. In her work, she combines insights from political and behavioural sciences to shed light on the social and political challenges and enablers of decarbonization. She investigates the determinants of environmental attitudes and behaviours, climate policy preferences, and public attention to climate change. Her research has been published in Environmental Research Letters, Climate Policy and Energy Policy, among others.

During her time at the EUI, Silvia will work on a project investigating the relationship between environmental change and political behaviour. She will also refine several ongoing projects on the interaction between individual and social behaviour and environmental policymaking.

Silvia holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy from Bocconi University’s Department of Social and Political Sciences. From February to August 2018, she was a Visiting Student Research Collaborator at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, working at the Behavioral Science for Policy Lab. Since 2020, she has been working at the RFF-CMCC European Institute on Economics and the Environment, where she participates in the ENGAGE research project and contributes to incorporating insights from political and social sciences in assessments of the feasibility of climate mitigation pathways.

Expertise for Teaching and Mentoring of Ph.D. Researchers
Silvia served as teaching assistant for a range of undergraduate and graduate courses at Bocconi University, including courses in climate change economics, public governance, and quantitative research methods.
