Call for papers: Civitas Forum

Posted on 26 January 2018

Civitas, the forum of Archives and Research on Christian Democracy, is launching a call for papers for its international scientific conference on the subject of Christian Democrats in Exile 1925–1989.

The conference will examine the full range of circumstances and consequences of the experience of political exile and Christian Democrats’ role in national and global/ transnational history in the 20th century.  Researchers at any stage of their career are invited to submit a short CV and an abstract of 300 words on this subject matter by March 1st, 2018

The conference aims to bring together recent archive-based research on the experience and politics of exile, to break down the traditional spatial and temporal walls between the study of exile in the years of fascism and Nazi occupation and the (post-war) Cold War experience of East European and Iberian exiles after 1945 and to overcome a more old-fashioned history of “ideas” in exile. It will be held in Bonn, Germany during November 21st- 23rd, 2018

Proposals addressing the following themes are of particular interest: the social and political composition of “Christian Democrats” in exile in a very broad sense, the receiving countries and cultures, their political organization in exile – both national and transnational, the programmatic work in exile.

Conference organizers will cover the costs of lodging and light meals during the conference, and will provide reimbursement for economy-class travel costs.

In addition, Civitas is also accepting proposals for its doctoral seminars held around the same time as their annual conference. Junior researchers are invited to submit applications to present their current or just concluded PhD research by April 1st, 2018.

The seminars allow researchers to give a 10 minute presentation on the subject of Christian Democracy in the 20th century and receive feedback from an international public including other researchers in the field and members of the Scientific Committee of Civitas.

For more information on how to apply, please consult the Civitas website.
