Upcoming debate "Gender issues in Europe" with Former MEP Bárbara Dührkop Dührkop

Posted on 17 March 2016
On Tuesday 22 March the EUI Gender Project Group and the Alcide De Gasperi Research Centre are organising a debate with Bárbara Dührkop Dührkop, former member of the European Parliament, on Gender issues in Europe. The debate will commence at 10.30 and go on until 12.00 at the Emeroteca in Badia Fiesolana.

The event will start off with an introduction by Ms. Dührkop Dührkop. The debate discusses women and refugees and the European Union’s responsibilities on the matter. The discussion will also address the actual gender situation; the crystal roof and political parties in the European Union and whether there is a backlash for women’s rights in the European Union. Finally, the definition of a European identity will be discussed.

Ms. Dührkop Dührkop will also visit the Historical Archives of the European Union at Villa Salviati on Monday 21 March in the framework of the collaboration between the Former Members Association of the European Parliament and the European University Institute. She will participate in the Archives’ educational programme for Florentine schools by presiding over a session of the “little European Parliament” by a Florentine High School.
