New Research Guides now available at the HAEU

Posted on 25 February 2019
The Historical Archives of the European Union presents a new set of research guides, adding to the first set published last year. These research guides aim to give an introduction to the archival material available in Florence in relation to specific historical subject matters and events. With 175 fonds and 300,000 database items, including 15.000 digitalized archival files, this new series of guides aims to make research at the HAEU more intuitive and productive.

The guides are available in PDF form on the website and aim to help anyone conducting research on specific topics pertaining to European integration and policies developed at the European level. Each research guide focuses on a particular research area and introduces the available material and the relevant archival fonds.

The second set has now been uploaded online and is available for consultation. As time goes by, new guides will be added and become more specific.

The current collection of 26 research guides covers the main policy domains gradually developed at the European level from the early years of integration with the establishment of the first European Community in the early 1950s up to today’s European Union. The subjects covered are diverse and include among others EU trade, enlargement, monetary policy, social affairs, research & development, regional policy and development co-operation. Other subjects, more specific, are also covered, including space policy, human rights and consumer protection.

While the research guides offer a first overview of the available material on the research topics, users are invited to refine their research by browsing the inventories and key word search in the database.
