The Archives of the Standing Conference of Rectors, Presidents and Vice Chancellors are now open for consultation

Posted on 21 June 2019

The archival documents (fonds CRE) of the Standing Conference of Rectors, Presidents and Vice Chancellors of the European Universities are now available for consultation at the Historical Archives of the European Union in Florence (HAEU).

In 2015, the European University Association deposited the material at the Historical Archives of the EU. The 452 files cover 50 years of CRE activity and are now accessible in the Archives’ reading room. The CRE archives represent an important new archival resource for researchers interested in the post-war history of higher education in Europe. The files deal with the meetings of the CRE's governing bodies as well as the numerous programs and projects that the CRE either participated in or managed.

Although the archives consist mainly of paper files, they include photographs, a few audio cassettes, and one video cassette. Also available is a series of documents from the Liaison Committee of Rectors’ Conferences of Member States of the European Communities, which, from 1996, was briefly known as the Confederation of European Union Rectors’ Conference before it merged with the CRE.
