To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) is launching an online exhibition examining the United Nations’ Decade for Women within a European context by applying the primary themes and goals to European initiatives, studies, and activities. Drawing upon archival documents and visual materials held by the HAEU, the exhibit presents relevant documents, articles, pamphlets, and visual materials.
The Decade for Women: Equality, Development and Peace (1975-1985) focused on employment, health, and education as its sub-themes, declaring them worthy of particular emphasis in the push for gender equality. The exhibition therefore compiles documents regarding women’s professional training and pay equality, political engagement and leadership, and health.
