The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU turns 20: online exhibition by the European Parliament

Posted on 07 December 2020

2020 marks the 20th anniversary of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union for citizens of EU member states. On this occasion, the Archives Unit of the European Parliament (EP) launched an online and multilingual exhibition, available on the Europeana platform in 24 languages.

The online exhibition aims to shed light on the origins of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, on the development of fundamental rights protection at the European Community level, and on the role of the European Parliament in this process.

The EP’s Archives Unit manages the official records of the European Parliament, assists researchers and publishes studies. Once the historical archives become public after a period 30 years, the Unit transfers these archives to the Historical Archives of the EU in Florence for long-term preservation and public access.
