The European University Institute (EUI) and the Hertie School have signed a memorandum of understanding for a new exchange programme, allowing master’s degree students to spend a semester studying in Berlin or Florence. Joint executive education, summer schools and other education and research projects are also in the scope of the cooperation.
Hertie School Master of International Affairs students and students in the EUI’s new Master in Transnational Governance at its School of Transnational Governance (STG) can spend an exchange semester at one of the partner institutions starting in the Academic Year 2021/22.
“We are delighted to partner with the EUI in ways that will further enrich our international offerings. The EUI and the Hertie School complement each other in many ways. We have already built close ties in joint research projects, mutual PhD supervision, and student and faculty exchange. We look forward to further expanding this successful cooperation in the future,” said Hertie School President Henrik Enderlein.
The two institutions are also already engaged in academic cooperation via the EU-funded university alliance CIVICA and the European and Transnational Governance Network on executive education.
EUI President Renaud Dehousse also welcomed the cooperation, saying: “The strengthened collaboration between the EUI and the Hertie School offers exciting opportunities for students to broaden their horizons, profiting from research and training excellence in Florence and Berlin.”

The Hertie School is a private university in Berlin, Germany, which prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business and civil society. Founded in 2005, it is accredited by the state and the German Science Council.
Established in 1972, the EUI is an intergovernmental institution involving 23 member states of the European Union, offering research and learning opportunities at the PhD, postdoctoral, master’s and executive training level.
