Programme Description

Dear Prospective Students for the AI and Law Summer School,

We are overjoyed to announce that the 2026 Summer School will take place in person and online at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. The course will take place over five days: from Monday, 6 July to Friday, 10 July.

The Summer School on AI and Law is held on a yearly basis. It is jointly hosted by the European University Institute, the University of Bologna, the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and the University of Utrecht.

The course will cover topics including expert systems, argumentation, machine learning, legal forecasting, large language models, natural language processing for law, regulation of legal AI, and AI and law in practice. Some of our students may also be interested in the Summer School on Law and Logic, which is also planned to take place in Florence in a hybrid format the week after 13-18 July 2026, and is sponsored by the European University Institute and the Harvard Law School.

Very warmly,

Kevin Ashley, Henry Prakken, and Giovanni Sartor on behalf of other professors in the AI and Law Summer School.
