The EUI Science-Policy Interface is a cross-cutting EUI strategic initiative designed to strengthen the role of scientific knowledge in policymaking.
It connects EUI with EU and national Institutions, EU Agencies, think-tanks and foundations, civil society and NGOs, and provides a platform for structured dialogue, mutual learning and concrete collaboration opportunities between policymakers and scholars in the wider EUI academic network.
Through strategic partnerships and innovative formats, the initiative reinforces the EUI’s contribution to evidence-informed policymaking while fostering a deeper understanding of policy processes within the academic community. It creates opportunities for researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue, translate research into policy-relevant insights, and jointly address Europe’s most pressing challenges, to the ultimate benefit of European citizens.
The Interface aims at providing an infrastructure for greater reflection on the fundamental questions for the society and a space where it is possible to discover alternative approaches and solutions stemming from fact-based research output and solid academic knowledge.
Ongoing projects:
The EUI contributes to a series of debates hosted by the ‘EU Policymaking Hub’, the European Commission’s initiative, started in 2020 by Maroš Šefčovič, at the time EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, that helps EU policymakers and researchers from the EUI work together, so that policy decisions are better informed by scientific research and evidence.
Since October 2025, the EUI engaged in a new special series of the Policymaking hub, displaying the conversation between an EUI scholar and EU Institutions representative on a topic of common interest.
Each debate addresses current EU legislative processes or strategic priorities such as the reform of the single electricity market, measures supporting industrial policy and international competition, the use of AI in policymaking, enlargement and other key questions for Europe’s future.
Participation is online and open to EUI and EU institutional staff, who can interact with the speakers via chat.
