Private Actors in Transnational Governance
Globalisation and technological innovation have been fueling more and more the need for increasing levels of trust in private actors - such as companies or special interest groups - to regulate and enforce significant aspects of people's daily lives including environmental protection, the digital space and financial markets. This Executive Training Seminar aims at teaching the advantages and the challenges of the trust vested in private actors through forms of self- and co regulation. It answers the question of whether private actors live up to citizens' expectations and what could be done as to the safeguarding of citizens' interests. In the ETS we will explore how private regulation and enforcement are (or should be) embedded in the law.
