Join Ellen Immergut and Tamara Popic as they present the introductory chapter of their recent publication in the 7th seminar in the EGPP Seminar Series

Ellen Immergut and Tamara Popic will present the introductory chapter of Health Politics in Europe, a new multi-author work, co-edited together with Karen Anderson and Camilla Devitt, and published by Oxford University Press. This chapter argues that the institutional frameworks of European health systems have been shaped by centuries of political development and, in particular, by critical turning points in state and regime formation. The most recent of these is the breakdown of the Soviet Union and consequent double transformation from state-socialism to capitalist democracy in Eastern Europe.

The talk will outline the impact of this series of challenges and crises on contemporary health systems and discuss the post-1989 transformation of East European health systems. The hardcover and e-book editions are available in the EUI library and the online appendix is available via open access on the OUP Companion website.

This is a hybrid event. Please register as in person places are limited and are available on a first come, first serve basis.
