This keynote lecture is part of the 15th MW Fellows June Conference on "Healing and Renewal", taking place from 16 June to 18 June 2021.

Abstract of the lecture:

In this lecture Dr. Buthelezi wants to trace how the COVID-19 pandemic is one of a series of historical and present occurrences/phenomena from which South Africa is trying simultaneously to recover – colonial and apartheid racialized inequality, anger over the disappointments of the 1994 political settlement, a decline in economic and state performance, and the compounding COVID-19 pandemic. This will lead him to a reflection on the prospects of recovery, taking as an example faltering moves to improve economic and state performance currently underway.

The lecture will be held in Badia's Refettorio and Online (via Zoom). If you want to attend in person, please contact [email protected]
