In this webinar, the panel will assess the response of the EU and the US since the outbreak of the war, including issues such as the level of unity and the balance of responsibility within the Western alliance.

History is back in Europe. Russia’s aggression in Ukraine confronts the European Union, the United States and NATO with the most serious crisis since the end of the Cold War. Alongside massive humanitarian emergency, a lot is at stake: first, Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity; second, the existing security order in Europe and its founding principles; third, the credibility of the EU as a foreign and security policy actor and, finally, the resilience of the Atlantic alliance.

In the face of Russia’s unprovoked attack against Ukraine, the US, the EU and its member states came together to deter Russian aggression by adopting heavy economic sanctions on Russia and providing humanitarian, financial and military support to Ukraine. At this critical stage, it is useful to take stock of the overall response and assess the possible way forward.

In this webinar, the panel will assess the response of the EU and the US since the outbreak of the war, including issues such as the level of unity and the balance of responsibility within the Western alliance. The debate will address the possible impact of Western sanctions on Russia’s economy, politics and foreign policy in the short and medium term. Finally, the challenges that Europe and the US will face in the post-war context will be discussed, with a view to accompany Ukraine in the difficult post-war phase.

All are welcome to attend and participate in the Q&A. Please register to receive the link.
