Led by the STG Fellows, the talks are a place for informal learning and exchange on global issues affecting different areas of policymaking. Recent advancements in science and technology have amplified the opportunities for local and international socioeconomic development. However, they have also increased the risks and threats to peace and security. Individual States, and the international community as a whole, need to advance the development of governance mechanisms for dual-use technologies (that is, technologies that can be used for peaceful and harmful purposes) to curb the threats derived from them while also stimulating their potential for good. This STG Talk will present how new developments of dual-use technologies in the digital, life sciences and aerospace fields impact prospects for peace, security and development and how they can be tempered through appropriate governance regimes.Speakers:Etim Offiong, Policy Leader Fellow 2021-22 cohortMaryanne Iwara, Policy Leader Fellow 2019-20 cohortMaria Garzon Maceda, Policy Leader Fellow 2020-21 cohortModerator:Michele Giovanardi, Coordinator of the Global PeaceTech HubThis is an online event.
