Led by the STG Fellows, the talks are a place for informal learning and exchange on global issues affecting different areas of policymaking. Disinformation became THE buzzword of the international community since the 2016 U.S. presidential elections. Election interference, attributed to the Russian trolls and amplified by the US domestic political discord and divisions, heavily shaped the tone of the international conversation on information disorder and defined the approaches to addressing disinformation. This also led to the oversimplification of the public perceptions of various types of information and the role of journalism and social media platforms, and contributed to regulatory initiatives that put into question the values of the freedom of speech and the freedom of reach alike. Disinformation also became a convenient label to attach with the purpose of defeating political enemies in different context.During the talk, we will aim to deconstruct the phenomenon of disinformation and complex societal and political processes, surrounding the debate on it.
