Iva Nenadić is the Scientific Coordinator of the Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom at the European University Institute and an Assistant Professor at the University of Dubrovnik’s Faculty of Media and Public Relations. She is currently also a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe in Tirana, Albania. Previously, she worked at the University of Zagreb’s Faculty of Political Science (2017-2025) and was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, US (2021-2022), where she collaborated with the Centre for Information, Technology, and Public Life (CITAP). Iva has a PhD in Communication Science and her research focuses on freedom of expression and media pluralism in the context of the growing and transformative impact of online platforms and artificial intelligence on news and information systems. Since 2016, she has been coordinating the methodological development and implementation of the Media Pluralism Monitor, with a particular focus on the area of Political Independence and the impact of digital transformation on the media and information landscape.Additionally, she takes part in the European Digital Media Observatory, leading research on structural indicators for the Code of Practice on Disinformation. Currently, she also serves as a member of the Committee of Experts on the impacts of generative artificial intelligence for freedom of expression (MSI-AI) at the Council of Europe, collaborates with the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media in their initiative on Big Tech and Media, and is in the Article 21 Academic Advisory Board (discussing the most challenging issues arising in the development of out-of-court dispute settlement mechanisms under the EU’s Digital Services Act).
