The ShaPE project, which starts in January 2024, will examine the role social partners have played in treaty-making and law-making for social Europe. The project is directed by Professor Claire Kilpatrick, co-Director of the Academy of European Law.

This workshop launches the two-year project ShaPE - The Social Partners as shapers and makers of Social Europe: discovering foundations and futures.

ShaPE aims to create new knowledge to understand the social partners’ past role in making and shaping social europe, and how that experience can inform social partner treaty and law-making to meet the large-scale challenges Europe faces today.

In this first event, members of the ShaPE team, which comprises academics, archivists and trade union professionals, will meet for two sessions. The first will be dedicated to strategies and opportunities for archival research on social partners, followed by a roundtable discussion with trade union professionals. The second session will focus on the foundations and future of the EU social partners.

Limited places to attend are available. Please contact [email protected] to request a spot.

ShaPE is funded by the European Commission under Call: SOCPL-2022-IND-REL. At the EUI, the project is based at the Academy of European Law in close partnership with the HAEU, the Alcide de Gasperi Research Centre, and the History Department.
