In this seminar, Cristina López will analyse the growth in demand of AI skills in the EU labour market and its possible relation with the EU members’ innovation capabilities.

This research uses Big Data analysis of online job advertisements to analyse the growth in demand of AI skills in the EU labour market and its possible relation with the EU members’ innovation capabilities. It utilises a database created by the European Commission (EC) which contains over 200 million ads collected since 2018 from all 27 EU member states. This is combined with more traditional indicators which are part of the EC’s European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS). To perform this analysis, Cristina Lopez uses several novel Machine Learning techniques, including time-series clustering, regularised regression for feature selection, and decision trees to draw useful insights. In this presentation Cristina López will highlight the challenges of working with this type of data and these ML techniques, and she will show some preliminary results.

Cristina López is a PhD candidate at the University of Salamanca (Spain) specialising in Social Studies of Science and Technology. Her research focuses on studying the adoption of AI in the Spanish and European labour markets in recent years by applying her Data Science expertise, using novel data sources and methodological techniques. Her background is in Computer Science and she has experience working as a data scientist researching AI industrial applications.
