The 18th Annual Conference of the European Society of International Law, whose Secretariat is based at the EUI's Academy of European Law (AEL), will be hosted in Aix-en-Provence in a hybrid format. This year's conference, taking place from 31 August to 2 September, will revolve around the theme 'Is International Law Fair?'.

The conference will be an opportunity for researchers, scholars, and practitioners from across Europe and beyond to participate in a critical reflection on the fairness of international law from historical, political, and economic perspectives.

In addition to the 20 panels analysing the theme of fairness in international law, the conference will also feature a mentoring activity for early-career researchers and a session with publishers and editors of international law journals. The full programme of the event can be found on the conference website. The conference will also be preceded by 19 workshops organised by ESIL interest groups.

Registration for the conference is open until 19 August (for on-site presence) and 30 August (for online presence).

The 2024 Annual Conference will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania, on 5-6 September 2024. The theme of next year's conference is 'Technological Change and International Law'. The call for papers will be published in late September 2023.

Membership to the Society is open to anyone with an interest in international law. The Vice-President of ESIL is EUI Law Professor Neha Jain, who acts as a liaison between the EUI and ESIL.
