EUI and ECB unveil new programme in central banking and banking supervision

On 2 October 2023, a game-changing journey began with the launch of the 'Central Banking and Banking Supervision Executive Education Programme', to extend the skills and knowledge of central banking and banking supervision experienced professionals.

In a joint effort to prepare mid-career professionals in the field of central banking and banking supervision within the EU, the European Central Bank (ECB) has teamed up with the European University Institute (EUI) to introduce the 'Central Banking and Banking Supervision Executive Education Programme. Understanding trends, preparing for the future'. Launched on 2 October, the programme is designed and delivered by the Florence School of Banking and Finance in cooperation with the School of Transnational Governance, and in partnership with the ECB.

Discovering the programme

This unique initiative is tailored to cultivate the next waves of leaders within the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM). It provides participants with an exclusive opportunity to explore and engage in discussions on recent trends in central banking and banking supervision.

Topics of paramount importance covered in the programme encompass monetary policy, banking supervision, digital finance, climate risks analysis, sustainable finance, digital currencies, macro-prudential policies, financial stability, accountability, diversity and inclusion in banking and finance, European political economy, and cyber risks and resilience, among others.

The primary objective of this pioneering programme is to enrich participants' expertise in both technical and cross-cutting aspects relevant to the ESCB and SSM institutions, fostering cooperation and facilitating the exchange of knowledge and practices among them.

Programme structure

The inaugural edition of the 'Central Banking and Banking Supervision Executive Education Programme' is set to run from October 2023 to July 2024, featuring a blend of onsite and online modules taught by senior academics from the EUI and high-level education institutions. 

This ECB and EUI partnership marks a significant stride toward preparing experienced professionals and future leaders to tackle the multifaceted trends and challenges confronting central banking and banking supervision in the 21st century. It underscores the unwavering commitment of ESCB and SSM institutions to nurturing expertise and fostering collaboration, ultimately contributing to the stability of the European banking and financial system.
